A few of the grade 8 students dressed up for their ancient Egyptian party |

On Wednesday, December 11, the grade 8 class celebrated the completion of their social studies unit on Ancient Egypt by holding an “Egyptian Party” in their classroom. Their teacher, Mrs. DePiero made the party a great learning experience by making it as authentic as possible.

More interesting costumes and props |

First of all, every student was randomly assigned a different character from ancient Egypt – one student was a pharaoh, another was a merchant, or a slave, or a farmer, or a soldier, or a priestess, and so on. Each student was required to make their own costume as well as two “props” to accompany their costume. They then did a short presentation to the rest of the class, explaining their costume, their props, and their role in ancient Egyptian society.

After the presentations, students enjoyed a small meal of various foods that were available in Egypt at the time, such as bread, hummus, dates, and various other fruits and vegetables.
