William Barker VCWilliam Barker VC

This year, IHMS honoured William Barker, the most decorated military war hero in Canadian history. Born in Dauphin, MB., this World War I flying ace received the Victoria Cross, the Distinguished Service Order & Bar, the Military Cross & Two Bars,  the Croix de Guerre (France), the Silver Medal of Military Valor (Italy)(Twice) and was Mentioned in Despatches (Three times).

While he is certainly remembered for having the fourth highest number of air combat victories, he was mostly revered for never losing a single man under his command in his final year as a combat pilot.

Songs and Poems for Peace

The grade four students lit candles for peace, then provided a reading about what peace means.

These students read a heart-rendering story about a little girl who lost her dad in a war. The story was called,

“Daddy’s Day at School”

Our guest speaker this year was Captain Roy Laudenorio (Padre Roy) from the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Colour Guard placed the Remembrance Day wreath at the foot of the centrepiece.

The students and the assembly stood for the Last Post, a bugle call that says goodbye to a fallen soldier. This was followed by a moment of silence.
