In 2002, the government of Manitoba passed an ordinance that established the day after Labor Day (which is always a Tuesday) as the beginning of the new school year. This was done to provide “more time for families to enjoy the summer and encouraging an increase in tourism and economic development opportunities throughout Manitoba.” |
At IHMS. the day after Labor Day is always an “admin day” for the teachers, so students typically don’t start school until the following day – a Wednesday. Since Wednesday September 4th was this year’s “Orientation Day”, all grade 1-8 students and half the Kindergarten students began classes on Thursday, September 5th. The other half of the Kindergarten class began classes the following day. |
