For decades, our school has been the choice for educating children because of its deep instilled values and nurturing environment that offers the opportunity for each child to grow. Education does not only happen in the classroom; it is also attained through extra activities that become lifelong treasured memories.

I remember preparing for beautiful Christmas Concerts and learning new Carols and dances. One year, we had special costumes made to look like snow angels. We were immersed in our culture as we practiced Ukrainian Carols as we did seatwork. The lyrics have been etched in my memories. Later, I loved returning to IHMS to see my children in their creative holiday concerts where they could showcase Ukrainian traditions. The music program was always a highlight for me. We were blessed with great music teachers who conducted strong choirs.

A new school year has begun and there is hope on the horizon that life is slowly returning to some form of normality. With great excitement, students and staff were welcomed back to Immaculate Heart of Mary School. All protocols and restrictions continue to be in place to make the best experience possible during this time of the pandemic.

One of the many joyful moments of school life is gathering as a community. Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and siblings have fond memories of seeing their children on stage sharing their performing arts skills with confidence. Hopefully, soon there will be new memories and opportunities to gather together and have audiences enjoy student performances, sporting competitions, debate tournaments and community events. The culmination of these experiences has created decades of future leaders.

During the pandemic, it became evident that relationships, especially connecting and caring for each other as a community, are critical. As our students settle into another school year, we are hopeful that someday soon, we will come together as a community to celebrate their talents and achievements.

Through the strong guidance of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate and the leadership of the laity, the School has a history of ensuring things are maintained to last a long-time. One item that has served the School well for over sixty years are the chairs used for events. Many a guest has enjoyed precious moments of seeing our students in action. We want to ensure there are many more years for guests to gather comfortably.

This is where you can help! We invite you to celebrate “Back to School 2021” by supporting our campaign to raise $30,000. Your contribution will help purchase new chairs, the storage system, and any other expenditures that are needed to increase the comfort experience of those participating in events.

Enclosed is a donation form for your convenience, or you can also make a gift online by visiting ihms.mb.ca. For every donation of $100, you will be acknowledged with a permanent donor recognition piece (decal) on each chair. This acknowledgement, can be in the name of your choice. See the form for additional details. (All donations of $25 or over will receive a charitable tax receipt.)

In appreciation of your generosity, prayers will be offered for you at the School’s monthly Divine Liturgy throughout this school year.

Our School is ready and eagerly awaiting to welcome back our community which will bring joy and encouragement to our students. Thank you for considering this invitation to help create lasting memories.
