Sr. Theresa Slota, SSMI after receiving a bouquet of flowers and a small gift during her visit to IHMS on October 26, 2016 |
On Wednesday, October 26, the staff and students of IHMS were honoured to welcome a very special visitor to the school – Sr. Theresa Slota, General Superior SSMI. Sr. Theresa lives in Rome, and is the worldwide leader of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, the religious order that own and operate our school.
This was not her first visit to IHMS – it was only a few years ago that she lived in Winnipeg as the Provincial Superior and attended important school functions such as the Annual School Tea, where she was referred to as Provincial Superior Sister Terry Anne Slota, SSMI. She is, of course, now Sr. Theresa Slota, General Superior SSMI. |
Students and staff gathered in the gym at 8:50 a.m. for an assembly to welcome Sr. Theresa to IHMS. There was also a brief program to acknowledge an important milestone in Sr. Theresa’s life – the 50th anniversary of her entering into religious life as a Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. The students celebrated this milestone anniversary by singing a few songs followed by a presentation of flowers and a gift by Viana C. (grade 3) and student council president Myles C. (grade 8).
After the gift presentation, Sr. Theresa spoke very eloquently for a few minutes before Mr. Picklyk dismissed the students back to their classrooms. Sr. Theresa then briefly toured the school, and even with a very tight schedule was able to find the time to visit the students in each of the classroom from Kindergarten to grade 8.
