New Staff Member At IHMS – Ms. M. DePiero

Ms. M. DePiero was recently hired as the school’s new grade 8 homeroom teacher. She graciously agreed to answer a few questions about herself.

 

Q: What is your role at our school? What are your duties?

A: I am the grade 8 homeroom teacher and also the grade 6, 7, and 8 Math teacher.

 

Q: Where did you work before you came here? Did you have any other interesting jobs in the past?

A: Before I started teaching, I was a developmental support worker and worked one-on-one with autistic adults.

 

Q: What kind of family do you have?

A: I have a daughter Bailey in grade 3 here at IHMS, and a cat named Ringo.

 

Q: Where did you grow up and where did you go to school?

A: I grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario. I went to Lakehead University in Thunder Bay where I studied Science, Math, and Education.

 

Q: How do you spend your free time outside of work? Any hobbies or interests?

A: I like to bike and also garden in the spring and summer months.

 

Q: Do you currently have any favorite TV programs? Have you read any interesting books lately?

A: I am actually right in the middle of a fantastic book by Jared Diamond called “Guns, Germs, and Steel”. It is about the history and fate of human societies.

 

Q: What kind of things do you like and dislike?

A: I like children, animals (except mice), and plants. I dislike mice.

Q: What do you like about your job here at IHMS?

A: I like how kind and polite all of the students and staff are at IHMS.

 

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you like to go, and why?

A: I would travel to Italy because I would like to visit some distant relatives that I have there.

 

Q: If you were granted 3 wishes, what would they be?

A: For my family to be safe and healthy. For an end to poverty and starvation. For humans to have more care and concern for biodiversity on our planet.

 

Q: What is something interesting about yourself that most people don???t know about?

A: I don’t watch TV and I’ve never had cable or a satellite dish.

 

Q: What would you say are your best qualities?

A: I am reasonably patient and understanding.
