Ukrainian Week 2003

Ukrainian week 2003 at IHMS took place from March 24-28, and was based on the theme "The Twelve Months of the Year." This theme allowed the children to learn more about their Ukrainian customs, traditions, and heritage. Some of the activities that took place during this week were:

Monday, March 24
  • Ukrainian dancing lessons.
  • Twelve months of the year trivia question.

Tuesday, March 25

  • Blue & yellow day! Students and staff came dressed head to toe in the colors of the Ukrainian flag.
  • Ukrainian dancing lessons.
  • Twelve months of the year trivia question.

Wednesday, March 26

  • Ukrainian wear day! Students dressed in their favorite Ukrainian t-shirt, sweatshirt, embroidered shirt, or blouse.
  • Twelve months of the year trivia question.

Thursday, March 27

  • Ukrainian wear day! Students dressed in their favorite Ukrainian t-shirt, sweatshirt, embroidered shirt, or blouse.
  • K-8 Ukrainian concert matinee performance at 1:30 p.m.
  • K-8 Ukrainian concert at 7:00 p.m.
  • Twelve months of the year 2003 trivia question.

Friday, March 28

  • Divine Liturgy. A special celebration was held honouring His Grace Micheal Bzdel, CSsR, on the occasion of his10th anniversary since being ordained Metropolitan for Ukrainian Catholics in Canada.
  • Perogy lunch! The IHMS Parents' Guild served homemade perogies from the various Ukrainian Catholic parishes.
  • Twelve months of the year 2003 trivia.
 

All week.....

  • National anthem in Ukrainian.
  • Ukrainian fact of the day. 

Ukrainian Week at IHMS for 2003 was another big success. The kids were lucky to learn about the Ukrainian culture, and were excited to show their parents what they had learned through poems, stories, and dancing at the annual Ukrainian concert. After all their hard work, the students were able to enjoy a delicious perogy lunch on Friday afternoon! This was a treat for all! Everyone seemed to have a great time, and we are all looking forward to Ukrainian Week next year!
