This year's grade 4-8 track and field meet was held on Tuesday, May 6th at Sisler High school. Although rain was in the forecast, the day ended up being sunny and perfect! The students arrived by bus at around 10 a.m. to begin the various events - the 100 m, 60 m, 200 m, 400 m, 600 m, 800 m, 1500 m, shot put (or ball throw), discus, and long jump.

Each grade had their winners, and everyone did great! Running events began when Mrs. Wdowiak fired the starting gun. In each heat there were usually six lanes, which racers would have to stay in throughout the race (except for the 800 m and 1500 m). Teachers were timing each runner, and had to be very precise because even a hundredth of a second sometimes made a difference in determining a winner. It was not only a day to show off your athletic ability, but also to have a fun time with your classmates.

A hamburger lunch was provided by the Parent's Guild. Because of their hard work and dedication, each student was allowed two hamburgers and a drink supplied from McDonald's. It was a filling lunch, and gave the students more energy for the events in the afternoon.

The three top winners of each event are scheduled to participate in the Knights of Columbus track meet on May 30, where they will compete with other students from different Catholic schools around Winnipeg.

By the end of the afternoon, everyone realised what a great day they had. Although they were incredibly sore for the rest of the week, it was all worth it!
