The Immaculate Heart of Mary School "Annual Tea" was held on Sunday, February 2, 2003 from 1:30-4:00 pm. Along with the school's fund-raising dinner (held in March of every year), the Tea is the school's largest and most important fund-raising and community building event of the year.

This year, the Tea honoured the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate for their hundred years of mission work in Canada. The Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate own and operate Immaculate Heart of Mary School, as well as Holy Family Nursing Home. The gym walls were covered with "tea art" of the Sisters and examples of their mission work here in Canada. The Tea was opened by Sister Junia, who was the school's principal many years ago, and who is now the SSMI Provincial Superior.

Among the many guests were His Grace Metropolitan Michael Bzdel, CSsR and Bishop David Motuik, as well as many of our clergy. About four hundred people were in attendance for the opening ceremonies.

Besides tea, delicious sandwiches, and dainties prepared by the Parents' Guild, there was a huge selection of goodies for sale in the bake room. There was also a room dedicated to the archives of the enshrinement of Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky. A photo display of the Sisters' mission in Canada also lined the upstairs hallway of the school.

Thanks to our volunteers, the Tea was a huge success. Special thanks to Mrs. G. Kwasny and Mrs. H. Klimenko, the Tea's Co-Convenors; Mr. B. Galarnyk and Mrs. T. Knysh, the Tea Raffle Coordinators; as well as all the other volunteers who had specific jobs preparing, serving, selling, setting up, or cleaning up afterwards!
